ALL-RUSSIAN UNION OF PATIENT ASSOCIATIONS ESTABLISHED

Over 10 Russian patient organizations, which include people with mucoviscidosis, multiple sclerosis, hemophilia, Gaucher’s disease, oncohematologic diseases, pituitary nanism established the All-Russian Union of Patient Associations.

On 9 December, at the press-conference in Moscow, Alexander Saversky, the co-chair of the organization and president of the League of Patients, reported that the main objectives of the Union will be to represent the interests of a wide range of patients throughout the process of making the patient rights system in Russia, as well as creating the tools to employ and advocate patients’ rights. ‘We aim to force all parties to openly collaborate,’ Saversky was quoted as saying. According to him, the Patient Union was established to achieve the best possible level of medical assistance. Achievements will be reached with the help of development of common approaches to the quality of patients’ rights, influence on the state policy in the area of healthcare, pulling together experts to work out common approaches. ‘We insist on that vital pharmaceuticals be accessible to everybody,’ said Pavel Vorobyov, a professor of the Moscow Medical Academy named after Ivan Sechenov, the chair deputy of the formulary committee at the Russian Academy of Medical Science.

The Union is planing on developing a system of regular collaboration with authorities, medical profession, pharmaceutical industry as well as media representatives in order to develop most favorable decisions in the area of exercising the rights of patients and resolving healthcare issues.

The institutors of the Union made a note of that it had taken them over a year to establish it.
